Malibu

Malibu (pronounced /mal-bu/) is a most affluent, beachfront city in western Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 12,575. Malibu consists of a 21-mile (34 km)[5] strip of prime Pacific coastline. The community is famous for its warm, sandy beaches, and for being the home of many Hollywood movie stars, others associated with the entertainment industry and corperate heads from Larry Ellis, Eli Broad, to Barbara Streisand, Cher, Sting, Leonardo Di Caprio. Signs around the city proclaim “27 miles of scenic beauty”, before it was incorporated in 1991.

Most Malibu residents live within a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1), which traverses the city, with some residents living up to a mile away from the beach up narrow canyons, and many more residents of the unincorporated canyon areas identifying Malibu as their hometown.

Pepperdine University is located in Malibu Canyon. Its campus has an envious view of the Pacific Ocean and the entire Malibu coastline to the Palos Verdes Penisular.

The most exclusive residential beach front communities include the Malibu Colony, La Costa Beach, Carbon Beach. Other beaches include Surfrider Beach, Zuma Beach, Malibu State Beach, Topanga State Beach, and Point Dume State Beach; its local parks include Malibu Bluffs Park[6] (formerly Malibu Bluffs State Park), Trancas Canyon Park, Las Flores Creek Park, etc.
